Incomprehensible Thoughts

Incomprehensible Thoughts

The two images "Incomprehensible Thoughts" and "Memento" cover a period of over 40 years during those I did research regarding graphical data processing ever and anon. Both pictures are collages of a so called million point picture and a picture got out of a modern painting program recently.

Million point pictures as an example of algorithmic computer graphics are among the first experiments I did at the late 1960s. They have not been my own invention during these days. You program a formula which computes to every point of a plane a new point of the plane, and therefore transform a point into a new point. The transformed point you transform again using the same formula and so you get another point. You go on with this until you have enough points and stop the whole process. You plot out the collected points and with a bit of luck you end up having an interesting incomprehensible structure.

It is not really one million of points at both pictures, but at least several thousands. With a modern computer the calculations are quicker than at that time.

In modern image processing and painting applications there are a lot of transformations like filters, effects, tools and so on. Therefore transformations with there versatile facets connect the 40 years of my working life with my auto-didactic artistic efforts nowadays.
